Himachal Pradesh is a state in Northern India. It is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir on the north, Punjab on the west and south-west, Haryana and Uttarakhand on the south-east and by the Tibet Autonomous Region on the east. In 1950 Himachal was declared a union territory and it became 18th state of India by Act 1971. Hima means snow in Sanskrit, and the literal meaning of the state's name is In the lap of Himalayas. Referred to as dev bhoomi or "place of God", Himachal Pradesh is famous for its abundant natural beauty.  It is a beautiful hill state in India, nestles in north-west region of western Himalayas. A majority of the area is mountainous and lofty ranges, deep valleys, swaying waterfalls, lush greenery and breathtaking pristine natural beauty all which symbolize the state. Being high in altitude, snowfall is a common sight in most parts of the state. Himachal Pradesh provides wide range of holiday destinations covered with natural beauty and panoramic views, making tourist relax and feel rejuvenated. It is justly sought out by adventure lovers as it offers amazing opportunities for mountaineering, trekking, skiing, golf, para gliding, ice skating and river rafting.
