Day by Day Journey

Day 02

DelhiRoadChandigarh

Delhi - Chandigarh

Early morning embark on a train ride to Chandigarh. On arrival, transfer to hotel. A short cable car ride takes you to the top of the hill. Situated at an altitude of 5000 ft. above sea level, the resort has spectacular view of the Shivalik ranges & the meandering Kaushalya river flowing down the plains.

Day 04

Shimla – Sarahan

Morning drive to Sarahan via Rampur. At Rampur, visit the wooden Palace. At Sarahan, visit the Bhimakali Temple & witness the evening prayer ceremony.

Day 05

SarahanRoadSangla

Sarahan – Sangla

Morning drive on the Hindustan-Tibet road through the Sutlej Valley to the Kinnaur region. The Sangla valley is spread over 42 Km at a height of 8,789 ft on the banks of the Baspa tributary of the Satluj, between the Great Himalayan and Dhauladhar ranges, near Himachal’s south-eastern border with Tibet. On arrival check in at your camp.

Later embark on a walk to Rakcham & Chitkul villages and enjoy some wonderous views of the Great Himalaya. The walk also gives an opportunity to observe closely the flora and fauna of the valley.

Day 06

SanglaRoadKalpa

Sangla – Kalpa

In the morning visit the Kamroo Narayan temple which commands a picturesque view of the Baspa valley. Later continue drive to Kalpa from where one can have a panoramic view of the Kinnaur Kailash peak (6400 Mts). If weather permits, the walk to the upland pastures through deodar and chilgoza pine forests is a must. Visit the Chinni village at to see the folk crafts.

Day 07

KalpaRoadNako 

Kalpa – Nako 

In the morning drive through the greener valleys to the drier regions of Trans Himalayas to Spiti region with its Gorges, Valleys, glaciers and snow topped peaks. Himachal’s frontier district on Lahaul & Spiti, holds two Trans-Himalayan regions whose rich heritage is hidden for half the year by snow on the highest passes.

Nako has a small lake and is close to Reo Purgyal, the highest peak in Himachal Pradesh 6,816 mt. On arrival check in at the camp.

Day 08

Nako - Tabo

Morning drive though the most spectacular mountain-scape following the moon at the crest line for the best part of an entire day, staring at the surreal blue green-brown of the ridges in the distance. The 11th century Tabo Gompa, one of the holiest monasteries for Tibetian Buddhists. Tabo’s complex of nine temples and cave shrines represents the Buddhist enclave in India – a frozen-in-time monument to a religion that has been reduced to a relic in the country of its birth.

Day 09

Tabo – Dhankar – Lhalun – Kaza

In the morning leave for Kaza. En-route visit the Dhankar Gompa, a steep climb wedged between the pinnacles of a razor sharp spur of crumbling rock and alkaline deposits. It has about 150 lamas in residence & a collection of Bhotia Buddhist scriptures, a four bodied Dhyani Buddha, murals of Medicine Buddhas and protector deities. 

Later visit the Lhalung Gompa, famous for its carved wood panelling. On arrival at Kaza, check in.

Day 10

Kaza – Kibbar – Ki – Kaza

In the morning take an excursion to the high mountain roads to Kibbar and later drive to Gette, one of the highest village in the world. View the spectacular Spiti Valley from here. Continue drive to Ki Monastery founded in the 13th century and is certainly the largest monastery in Spiti. The Ki Gompa has about 300 lams in residence & is the seat of Lochen Tulku, the 17th incarnation of ‘the revered founder. It has priceless collection of thangkas and rare manuscripts, besides weapons and wind instruments.

Day 11

Kaza – Keylong

Morning drive to Lahaul viewing the towering Mountains & through Passes like Kunzum La (4590 Mts), the highest point in Spiti. Visit the Chandratal lake with its large number of migratory ducks.

On arrival check in & overnight at the guest house.

Day 12

KeylongRoadManali

Keylong – Manali

The Chandra & Bhaga valleys of upper Lahaul, in which lies Keylong. Visit the Drugpa Kardang Gompa, the largest monastery in Lahaul.

Later visit the Shashur Gompa, renowned for its long thangka. On the road to Manali, the eight storeyd tower of the Gondhla chiefs and the oldest monastery in Lahaul, the 800-year-old Guru Ghantal Gompa at Tandi, is believed to have been established by Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism.

Day 13

 Manali

 Manali

Picturesque Manali is situated along the west bank of the Beas River and retains much of the natural beauty that gives this hill station a unique flavor. AM excursion to Naggar and visit the Roerich Museum displaying the work of the Russian painter.

Later visit the four-tiered wooden Hadimba Temple with its pagoda-style roof around a small  natural cave enshrining the footprints of the demoness Hadimba.

Day 14

ManaliRoadNalagarh

Manali – Nalagarh

Morning leave for Nalagarh. Historic Nalagrh in the Himalayan foothills, capital of the erstwhile Chandela Rajput kingdom of Hindu. Today the Nalagarh fort has been converted into a luxurious heritage hotel.
