Arunachal Pradesh in northeast India is one of the most beautiful states of the country with plenty of natural delights. It is surrounded by Assam and Nagaland to the south and on three sides by Bhutan, China and Myanmar. Arunachal Pradesh is also known as `land of the dawn-lit mountains’ and Orchid State of India or the Paradise of the Botanists. It is the largest state among the North-east Indian states commonly known as the Seven Sister States. The picturesque hills offer a relaxing ambience. It’s soothing climate, the simple and hospitable people, snowy mist, unexplored passes, placid lakes and world famous monasteries are reason enough to attract a tourist.
Due to variation in altitude and climatic conditions there are four different types of forests in the state that provides shelter and food to a wide range of flora and fauna. It is the only state that have four major varieties of the big cats in its jungles- tiger, leopard, clouded leopard and snow leopard. More than 500 species of birds have been recorded, many of which are highly endangered and restricted to this state. A large mammal called `Mithun’ is a majestic animal, which is native to the state,. One of Asia’s largest Orchidarium is in Arunachal Pradesh, located at Tipi.
Tourist attractions include Tawang (a town with a Buddhist monastery), Ziro (which holds cultural festivals), Basar, the Namdapha tiger project in Changlang district and Sela lake near Bomdil with its bamboo bridges overhanging the river. The state provides abundant scope for boating, trekking, hiking, angling and rafting,. Rafting and trekking are common activities.
