Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh is located in eastern part of India at the foothills of Himalayas. The city is named after the irregular shaped Itafort i.e. fort of the bricks which dates back to the 14-15 centuries. It was settlement of the Nishi tribe, one of the largest among the 26 major tribes that inhabit the state. The Nishis are easily recognizable – they sport black and white hornbill feathers in their cane headgear. This city attracts nature lovers as they can view scenic beauty all around and is also dotted with archeological sites of great historical value. Itanagar and nearby areas are excellent places to indulge in adventure sports. Apart from angling and rafting, trekking is an extremely popular activity in Itanagar. Itanagar can be called as mini India, as people from all over the country live here in harmony.

This historical fort is located in the heart of the city. This fort has irregular shape and was built by Ahom rulers, somewhere between 14th and 15th century. The city name is derived from this fort. The Ita fort of Itanagar is of ample historical importance and is located at the heart of the capital city. The excavated ruins of this historical fort are one of the major tourist attractions in Itanagar and being imposing it was highly irregular in shape. The fort is a fortified area of an irregular shape, enclosed by natural ridges and brick ramparts. There are said to have two brick walls and three gates.

It is located on top of a hill. A shrine with yellow roof reflects Tibetan influence. There is a stupa in front of the temple which carries the portrait of a Buddhist monk. This worship centre was sanctified by Dalai Lama and it stands in the town with serene surrounding of hills in the backdrop. The highlight of temple is contrasting green carpets around the shrine. Along with the worship place, there are dense woods and majestic mountains. Buddha Temple features sculpture of Lord Buddha along with religiously important Buddhist articles of worship.

It's located near the Secretariat and offers a comprehensive look at the arts and crafts of all the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. The museum is home to a number of archaeological artifacts, ornaments, basketry, weapons and numerous household articles of the tribals. Bamboo and cane artifacts, jewellery, textiles, woodcarvings and musical instruments are also on display here. It is an informative attraction of the city, which displays contrasts of yesteryears. Managed by government, the museum is an informative library that houses an extensive collection of books and also a workshop of Handicraft section

The Gyakar Sinyi Lake is at a mere distance of 6 kilometers in the western part of Itanagar and commonly known as Ganga Lake. It is a gift of nature to the humans. The peaceful natural ambiance surrounded by a dense forest - tall bamboo trees and tree ferns, this picturesque lake is an ideal place for picnic. Many of the tall trees are festooned with orchids. The luxuriant green mountain and the crystal clear water have an enthralling effect. The colour of the lake is so marvellous that any eye can be fixed up have the picture perfect view of this lake.
