Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in the Central Province, It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. City lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. The richness of the area speaks louder than all the other wonderful aspects of Kandy, being circled by blue hills, colored by the lush foliage and nurtured by fountain pure water of rivers. A UNESCO world heritage site. Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic and most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. Served as the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom, which fell to the British in 1815 after defying the Portuguese and Dutch for three centuries.

The Ceylon tea museum is located in 4km south of Kandy on the Hantane road and its is built in 1925 the spacious four storied Tea Factory, had been abandoned for more than a decade when it was earmarked for the Museum Project undertaken by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Planters' Association of Ceylon. Today it stands as a proud monument to the success story that is Ceylon Tea and it is one of the best of its kind in the world. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings. A UNESCO world heritage temple sustained damage from bombings by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 1998 but was fully restored each time. The entire temple complex covers a large area and as well as the main shrine there are numerous other temples and museums within the complex. The following are some of the key sites. During Puja the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists. However, you don’t actually see the tooth. It’s kept in a gold casket shaped like a Stupa, which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size.
The National Museum is located next to the Temple of the Tooth in part of the former Royal Palace of Kandy. The building has been built according to the architectural features of Kandy period. It was used as a depository for historical artifacts made by the Kandy Art Association which was established in 1832 and artisans of Matale. The museum was opened to the public in 1942.The tall-pillared audience hall hosted the convention of Kandyan chiefs that ceded the kingdom to Britain in 1815.
