Sarahan


Sarahan is located halfway up a high mountain side and the village is known as the gateway of Kinnaur. It is near the old Indo-Tibetan Road. The former summer capital of the Bushahr kingdom has fields and orchards that surround the small villages with their slate roofed houses, compose pictures of pastoral perfection.  Saharan is the base for numerous treks and is perched high above the left bank of the Satluj, Sarahan has a pleasant climate enhanced by the vista of the Srikhand Range across the valley. The road to Sarahan winds past flowering Pine trees that give way to stately Oaks. The twin peaks of Gushu-Pishu and the holy mountain Srikhand Mahadev standing out prominently. It is a place of pilgrimage, a heaven for nature lovers and the temple complex attracts a variety of admirers. This place offers extraordinary travel experience.

The Bhimakali Temple

Shri Bhima Kali Temple is a temple dedicated to the mother goddess Bhimakali, presiding deity of the rulers of former Bushahr State. The exact date of temple is not known, it is associated with historical events dating to the 7th century, while parts of it are around 800 years old. This temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths with the architecture of the temple as its prime highlight. The temple is all built with wood and presents a wonderful combination of the Hindu and Buddhist Temple style. Its elaborate layout consists of a series of courtyards connected by beautiful gateways. 


Bird ParkĀ 

This park is situated close to the Bhimkali Temple and is a popular destination among bird watchers. The park serves as a pheasant breeding centre. This place is also home to the Monal, the state bird of Himachal Pradesh which draws a number of tourists to behold its sight.
