Kalpa


With its panoramic view of the Kinner Kailash range, Kalpa is situated at the height of 2758 m above the sea level and is 110 km from Sarahan. Kalpa is a little gem of a village. According to legend, Kalpa was the winter home of Shiva and there are some impressive Kinnauri-style temples in the ornately carved Narayan-Nagini temple complex, just below the colourful Samdrup Choeling Gompa. Across the river faces the majestic mountains of the Kinner Kailash range. These are spectacular sights early in the morning as the rising sun touches the snowy peaks with crimson and golden light.  The choice of walks include one to the upload pastures through deodar and chilgoza pine forests.

Chini village

This village is the central destination for the tourist town of Kalpa. The village is situated in front of the Kinnaur Kailash Range and commands magnificent views of some peaks. The Chini village has houses and temples which are centuries old. The Old Hindustan Tibet road which was an old trade route passes by this village, which used to make it a prominent settlement on this route.  


Recong Peo

It is located 13 km from Kalpa and is the headquarter of district Kinnaur. Simply known as Peo by the local inhabitants, it is at a height of 2,290 metres. Recong Peo have a panoramic view of Kinner Kailash. Kinner Kailash mountain is regarded as one of the mythical homes of Lord Shiva as here is a 79 feet high rock formation that resembles Sivalinga. 


KOTHI

Just 3 km from Recong Peo, Kothi has a temple dedicated to the goddess Chanadika Devi. Kothi also called as Koshtampi, is an ancient large village in tehsil Kalpa and is set against a backdrop of mountains and graves of the deodar, the temple has an unusual architectural style and fine sculpture. The village is environed by the fields and fruit trees punctuated by vineyards. An exquisite gold image of goddess is enshrined in sanctum. The goddess Shuwang Chandika temple is in the village. The village with its attractive temple, tanks and gracious willows makes an altogether lovely landscape.
