Hospet or Hosapete, is a city in Bellary District in central Karnataka. The city was built by Krishna Deva Raya in 1520 AD, one of the rulers of Vijayanagara in memory of his mother Nagalambika. It is on the Tungabhadra River, 12 km from Hampi, the World Heritage site consisting of the ruins of the medieval city of Vijayanagara, former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Temples of this city has rich architectural which attracts large amount of travelers to visit there. Earlier this city was named as Nagalapura and people as Hosa Pete which means New City. Hospet is a town well connected from several important cities in India. Bellary is the closest city from hospet. The city is notable as a transport hub for Hampi.

This monument has fine structure which represents Hindu Sikharas. These Sikharas has horizontal pyramidal where music concerts were held for the royal family in earlier times. Octagonal watch tower is also seen there. It is a beautiful arena, which is enclosed by Zenana near Hazara Ram Temple. The enclosure was the socializing area for women in the royal family during ancient era. It is a two-storey structure with an open base floor and upper floor featuring arched windows and balcony. The structure was made of lime mortar and brick made composition. The decoration and architectural carvings are a blend of Hindu and Islamic styles.

The temple is positioned along the main road to Hampi and is one of the prominent sightseeing spots of Hospet. In yesteryears, the temple was the private place for the worship of royal family. This temple has veritable picture gallery. Long monolithic stone turf is seen outside the temple. The 15th century temple was originally known as Hajana Rama, meaning the palace temple. It is dedicated to Lord Rama in olden times and the shrine still displays beautiful carvings from the Ramayana. At present, it houses an image of Lord Buddha, who is believed to be 9th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Picture gallery in the temple represents highly artistic and magnificent stone.
