Mandawa is a town in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan and it is part of Shekhawati region. Mandawa is situated 190 km from Jaipur in the north and lies in the heart of Shekhawati region of Rajasthan which is well known for its forts and havelis.  The compact and busy little market town of Mandawa was settled and fortified in 18th century by the dominant merchant families of the region. The city was made athikana in the mid of 18th century by the Bhojraj Ji Kasubsub clan of Shekhawat Rajputs. Historically speaking Mandawa was once an important halt on the fabled Silk Route to China. The place has gained tremendous popularity because of its rich cultural heritage. Huge numbers of people today travel to Mandawa to see the paintings, which have earned the city the reputation of 'Open Air Art Gallery'.

The Fort of Mandawa

The major attraction of the Mandawa town is the magnificent fort Castle Mandawa, which has now been converted into a luxury hotel. The impressive fort of Mandwa was built by Rajput ruler Thakur Nawal Singh. The archway is painted with interesting forms of Lord Krishna and his cowherds. The sprawling architecture houses different themes in different wings. The Durbar Hall is a grand portion of the Fort and family portraits, arms and antique canons added to its charm. The Fort of Mandawa is on height so one can see beautiful view of Mandawa town from roof of fort.


Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli

Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli is popular tourist attraction of Mandawa. The attraction is a must-visit for history buffs and art lovers. Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli is the perfect example of Rajasthani art and heritage. It has a depiction of Indra on an elephant and Lord Shiva on His Nandi Bull. Right across it is the Goenka Double Haveli with two gates. The haveli has a monumental façade of elephants and horses. The intricate carvings and designs which feature on the walls and pillars of the haveli take us back to the glorious time of the Rajputs.


Nawalgarh

It's excursion from Mandawa and situated about 30 kilometers from it. Nawalgarh was founded by Thakur Nawal Singh in 1731 AD. Tourists can get a glimpse of the Rajasthani architecture, as well as the rich cultural heritage of the state at Nawalgar. The city is famous for its majestic forts and folklores. Nawalgar is known to possess the highest number of Shekhawati Havelis.
