The Kalimpong is a hill station in the Indian state of west Bengal. The bustling bazaar town sprawls along a saddle shaped mountain ridge overlooking the roaring Teesta River with the best view of khangchendzonga. Kalimpong's early development as a major Himalayan trading centre focused on the tea trade with Tibet. The kalimpong has a colonial architecture with Buddhist monasteries and fascinating nursery industry, it is the home to ethnic Nepal's, indigenous Lepchas.

Durpin Gompa is the largest monastery and, formally known as zangtok pelri phodang. It was built by Durpin Dara in mid 1970 on the northwest is the Kanchenjunga range and on the south is the tiger hill. The monastery is a collection of many diverse sects of immigrants who assisted in its construction.

Dr. Graham's Homes orphanage and school was built in 1900 by JA Graham, a Scottish missionary, to educate children to tea-estate workers, and now has 1300-odd students. It is a small workshop to see traditional papermaking processes, from boiling and pulping of the local argayli bush to sifting, pressing and drying. The resulting insect-resistant paper is used to block-print monastic scriptures. Morning is the best time to see production. It's a 10-minute walk from town, on the right side of the road.
