"One of the India's greatest cities, Kolkata or Calcutta as was used to be known, has been through many incarnations. From an obscure village on the banks of Hooghly River, it evolved into the capital of Great Britain's Indian empire."

AM visit Fort William. This fort was initiated by Robert Clive, and   got completed by 1780. The basic purpose of setting up Calcutta Fort William was to prevent attacks from Muslim invaders. Later visit Victoria Memorial, the city’s most celebrated landmark. The domed classical structure, now a museum, with its 25 galleries covers a fascinating selection of Raj memorable.

PM visit Howrah Bridge, located over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It is said to be the busiest bridge of the world. It got its name owing to the fact that it connects the city of Howrah to Calcutta. It was set up in 1874. It stands on two 270 feet high pillars. Howrah Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge that was constructed without using any nuts and bolts.

Day 03

Early morning transfer to domestic airport to board flight for Bhubaneswar. On arrival, meet, assist and transfer to the hotel. Check in and later proceed for sightseeing. 

Visit Parasurama temple. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Lord Shiva, and is one of the oldest existing temples in the state. It is believed to have been built around 650 CE in Nagara style and has all the main features of the 10th century’s Orissan style temples. Continue visit Lingraj temple. It was built during the 11th century to the glory of Lord Shiva.

Later visit Dhauli, a hill south of Bhubaneswar. Dhauli has major edicts of Emperor Ashoka engraved on a mass of rock. It is presumed to be the area of the bloody battle of Kalinga, won by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka in 265 BC. Also visit 3rd century temple complex. All these temples are architectural marvels of East India.

AM excursion to the Heritage of Orissa also known as the Diamond triangle . Visit Ratnagiri. It is true to its name and is indeed a gem. It is one the most excavated site and is spread over a hilltop offering grand view of the surrounding. It was excavated in 1960s the site yielded two rectangular monasteries and a large stupa surrounded by smaller ones, dating back to the 6 – 12 century AD.

Continue visit Udaygiri. It is the hill of the rising sun, the largest of the three archaeological sites of Ratnagiri, Udaygiri & Lalitgiri .Excavation at Udaygiri started in 1960s, and have been carried out in several phases, and continues to this day.

Later visit Lalitgiri. Lalitgiri is considered the holiest of the three sites of Diamond Triangle, as excavation yielded a casket containing a sacred bone relic, probably of Buddha himself.

Bhubaneswar – Konark - Puri

Bhubaneswar – Konark - Puri (101 Kms & 3 Hrs drive)

Early morning drive to Puri. En-route visit the famous Sun Temple of Konark .The Sun Temple was built in the thirteenth century in the form of gigantic chariot of Sun God, with twelve pairs of exquisitely ornamented wheels pulled by seven pairs of horses. This Temple is indeed one of the most sublime monuments of India.

On arrival check in to the hotel and PM visit Jagannath Temple. The majestic temple of Lord Shree Jagannath at Puri is said to have been built by Emperor Anangabhimadeva, historically identified as Angangabhima III belonging to Ganga dynasty. This temple is a magnificent temple from the past and keeps a huge importance in India. Also it is well known for its Rath yatra festival of Jagannath Puri in India.

Note: Though the Temple do not allow any foreign tourist inside, so it has to be visited from outside (without entering inside the temple).
