Overview

In the foothills of the Himalayas, where Darjeeling, a delightful hill station, with its brilliant green tea plantations covered terraced slopes is situated. The town is approached by a tiny train which wends its way up the steep hills. Sikkim, in its tranquil valleys, richly ornamented Buddhist monasteries stand amidst emerald-green terraced rice fields with kanchendzonga which dominates the skyline and the life of Sikkim's people.

Day 01 Arrive Delhi

On arrival at Delhi international airport, meet, assist & transfer to hotel.

Day 02 Delhi / Bagdogra – Darjeeling(93 Km & 3 Hrs)

Morning departure transfer to domestic airport for connect flight to Bagdogra. On arrival meet, assist & drive to Darjeeling. The name Darjeeling derives from the monastery of Dorje Ling, which became the summer capital of the British government. Today, much of the Raj splendor is still in evidence and contrasts with its Tibetian, Nepali & Bengali character.

Delhi / Bagdogra – Darjeeling(93 Km & 3 Hrs)

Day 03 Darjeeling

AM visit to Tiger Hill, Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. The presence of Kanchendzonga (8,598m), India’s highest peak, dominates the town. Some of the best views of the entire snow clad range of the Eastern Himalayan peaks can be enjoyed from the windy, prayer flag-lined Observatory Hill. Take a Toy Train ride on world heritage train from Ghoom & back to Darjeeling. This narrow gauge train line was hailed as an engineering masterpiece and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The line makes wide loops as it zigzags up the hill with its steam engine & up to three carriages.

Day 04 Darjeeling – Pelling (125 Kms & 5 Hrs)

Morning drive to Pelling. Situated on a ridge, at an altitude of 2,040m, with excellent views of the peaks and glaciers of the Kanchendzonga range, Pelling is the state’s most beautiful and unspoilt region, with expanses of forest, green river valleys, superb trekking trails, and Sikkim’s oldest monasteries. 


On arrival check into your hotel. Afternoon visit to Pemayangtse Monastery, built in 1705, is a treasure house of beautiful thangkas, murals & images, with a breathtakingly intricate model of Zangdopelri, the seven-stireyed celestial home of Guru Padmasambhava.

Day 05 Pelling – Yuksum – Pelling (42 Kms & 2 Hrs)

AM full day excursion to Yuksom and visit to Dubdi Monastery. Yuksam was the first capital of Sikkim, where the first Chogyal of Sikkim was crowned in 1641 by three learned lamas. The Kathok Lake & Dubdi Monastery, bilt in 1700, with its exquisite Buddhist images and meditation cave, is a steep climb above.

Day 06 Pelling – Gangtok (116 Kms & 5 Hrs)

Morning drive to Gangtok. Until 1975, Sikkim was a kingdom, ruled by Chogyals, Buddhist of Tibetan origin, whose dynasty began in the 17th Century. On arrival check in at the hotel. 


Later visit the Enchey Monastery, whose large prayer hall is full of vibrant murals amd images, representing the entire pantheon of Mahayana Buddhist deities. Also visit Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, with its rare collection of medieval Buddhist scriptures, bronzes and embroidered thangkas.

Day 07 Gangtok – Rumtek – Gangtok

AM full day excursion to Rumtek Monastery. One of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist sects, the Gyalwa Karmapa, who fled Tibet in 1959 after the Chinese invasion, and built a replica here of his monastery. Especially splendid is the reliquary chorten of the 16th Karmapa.
