Konark, a village in the state of Orissa, is situated at a distance of 66 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar and around 35 km from the popular sea beach of Puri. The Sun Temple located in Konark is one of the most marvelous tourist destinations in Orissa. One of the most magnificent monuments of religious significance, a true masterpiece of architecture proudly stands in the form of Sun Temple at Konark. A culmination of Oriyan architecture, the temple is a wonderful place as it is built in 13th century by King Narasimhadeva, the temple is designed in the shape of a colossal chariot with seven horses and twelve wheels, carrying the Sun God, Surya, across heavens. The Sun Temple at Konark, often called as the Black Pagoda.

The Museum was established in 1968, with the purpose of housing the archeological excavations and the fallen sculptures from the Sun temple. The gallery contains a number of antiquities which are displayed in 4 different galleries. The antiquities include various sculptures, paintings, manuscripts and various fallen parts from the Sun Temple of Konark

It is Located at a distance of 19 kilometers from Konark, and is a famous picnic spot and has a fishing village near Konark. The best time to visit the place is during the sunset when one can experience the panoramic view of the nature. The place is great for photographers and is a major center for fishing and salt production in Konark.

At about 3 kms from the Sun Temple at Konark is the Chandrabhaga beach. The strong currents do not make it either safe or easy for swimming. But the picturesque view of the sunrise and sunset at this place is enchanting.
