Kaziranga

Kaziranga National Park, declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO is located 23 kms northeast of Guwahati and spread over 430 sq. kms. It is situated in the intense geographical location, the park presents a massive range of natural beauty. It is home of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros and one can find various other wild species such as tiger, , rhinoceros, Indian bison, elephant, sambar, deer and many more. Kaziranga National Park also boasts the highest density of tigers among the protected areas in the world and was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006. Although sighting of tigers are difficult because of the tall grasses. The title Kaziranga adopts its name to Karbi, which is the name of a woman who ruled here in ancient time. The park’s landscape is characterized by vast grasslands and swamps, dotted with patches of semi-evergreen forest. Migratory birds are seen in great numbers here during winters. One could go round the park in a jeep or car. Elephant safari is also popular here. The park offers a splendid scenic sight and the beautiful geographical vicinity of the park makes it heaven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers as it is surrounded by Brahmaputra River on the North and the Karbi Anglong mounts in the South. The nearest cities from Kaziranga National Park are Jorhat and Tezpur. The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is from November to March.
