Many of these settlers have Bangladeshi origin as these people were given settlement by the Indian government after the 1971 war between India and Pakistan.

It is home to the beautiful silver sand, Kalapathar beach which is slowly becoming a hotspot tourist destination. The two main attractions of this lovely beach are its crystal clear water and breathtaking sunrise/sunset views. As the beach is not so crowded, couples can enjoy a romantic walk and families can spend some peaceful moments. The emerald seas, the tropical forests on one side of the road, the kalapathars (black rocks) that decorate the coastline, the silken smooth silver sands and the sheer solitude make this beach a great place to relax.
